You can collect your race pack on the morning of the race during registration. You can then rack your bike at the racking area, please ensure to leave enough time to register and rack before your race.
The choice of bike is an individual choice. The most suitable bike would be a road bike with Gator Skin tyres (to avoid punctures) and least suitable would be a Mountain Bike. (A hybrid with road tyres would also suit). All cycle routes involve rolling hills with climbing and speedy descents so a well maintained bike that you are comfortable on is advised. Your brakes and helmet will be checked on entrance to bike racking.
Apart from the basics (bike, helmet, running shoes) you do not need any specialist equipment. A full list of mandatory equipment is available by checking Race Regulations and Mandatory Kit List.
No. You will be provided with a map. The route is marked out with signs and race Marshalls will also be on hand along the route.

BIKE RACK TRANSITION: Once you have parked you will be passing through the Bike Racking area on route up to the Registration Dome in the woods. You WILL be able to get your bike sticker number and rack your bike here BEFORE heading up to the Registration Dome for Sign in, race number bib and timing device.
Your race time and your progress through each stage are timed using a timing chip around your left ankle. Results will be displayed on a big screen as you cross the line and for friends and supporters to read. Full results will be published online later on race day by www.coretiming.ie
Please return your Timing Chip after crossing the finish line.
Yes. Each route has a team entry available. We at the Coalface know some of us prefer cycling over running and vice versa so why not share the load and compete within a team! Team member numbers are limited to one per section (3 sections in the Challenge Event and 4 sections in the Sport and Elite events). Each Team must register together at the same time and for the same race. Remember to include the team name in registration details. A single race timer will be transferred from one team member in the transition area before that member sets off on the next race section. There is a Team prize.
Feel free to contact us with any questions by emailing info@coalfacerace.ie or use the Facebook page for queries and updates.
No the use of earphones to listen to music during the race is prohibited. It is extremely dangerous for competitors to listen to music whilst cycling as the roads are not closed and are open to local traffic. You must also be able to hear any of the marshall’s instructions.
Please contact us via email. You may be able to transfer from longer route to shorter if there is available space in that race up to 31st Aug. It is not possible to transfer from the shorter to the longer routes without re-registering. There are no refunds as the cost is incurred the moment you register.
Yes, we have prizes for 1st 2nd & 3rd in all 3 races and in both Male/Female. Also 1st Team home.
Yes of course. Raising money and awareness for a charity that you believe in will encourage you in your training and during The Coalface Race.
